«THE BARBER OF SEVILLE »
Based on the opera by Gioacchino Rossini and the play by Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, The Barber of Seville.
«Fortunatissimo, or A Hopelessly Happy Man»
The comedy is a modern reading of the opera by Rossini and the play by Beaumarchais about the adventures of Figaro, which became a rich source of inspiration for the creators of the performance.
The stage fantasy is created by the Moscow Soloists chamber ensemble under the baton of Yuri Bashmet, actor Yevgeny Stychkin, and opera singers. The sets, video effects, and innovative theatrical techniques are in concord with the opera music written by Rossini for the carnival in Rome. Composer Kuzma Bodrov reinterpreted Rossini’s music, adding up several new colorful compositions.
The performance immerses the audience in Rossini’s world of imagination, comparable to a bizarre mechanism that gives birth to magical sounds and images. The author, director, and stage designer of the performance, the St. Petersburg director Viktor Kramer, represented this creative mechanism in the form of a large-scale stage object, a musical machine capable of generating all sorts of stage effects. Like a fantastic living organism, the musical machine reacts to flashes of the author’s creativity and produces miracles and surprises throughout the entire action.
