TCHAIKOVSKY INTERNATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL IN KLIN
«Tchaikovsky is definitely my favorite composer. It was his music that changed my view of the music profession: when I was still a school student, I once heard his Sixth Symphony and made up my mind to become a professional musician. Klin is a very special place, with incredible energy and a very special atmosphere. Every time I come to Klin, to the Tchaikovsky memorial house, I feel both delight and a great responsibility for what will happen on stage during the concert.» .
Yuri Bashmet
The festival originated in the Tchaikovsky State Memorial Music Museum Preserve in Klin, one of the most meaningful places for Tchaikovsky. Its stellar line-up of performers and exquisite diversity of programs immediately attracted the attention of the public, artists, and the media. The festival’s organizing committee comprised prominent people of art, including Yuri Bashmet, Denis Matsuev, Dmitry Bertman, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Alexander Tchaikovsky, Nikolai Tsiskaridze, Evgeny Mironov, and many others. Among the regular participants of the festival are the leading Russian musical and drama theatres, opera and ballet performers, and academic and jazz art stars. Over the ten years of its existence, the festival has acquired individual distinctive features that attract spectators from all over the country.
The open-air concert format is the trademark of the festival. The main festival concerts take place in the open-air area of the Tchaikovsky State Memorial Music Museum Preserve Great Meadow. Ideally suited for the festival, the Great Meadow allows for the combination of the highly artistic atmosphere with summer holiday moods. Every year, the museum provides the festival with a new unique temporary stage built by special author’s design.
The festival fulfills the precepts of Tchaikovsky, who left a legacy in virtually all genres of music; it holds out for multidisciplinarity and diversity at the same time.
«People come in families with children; there’s a sea of flowers; they listen very attentively and kindly; and in general, it is an idea made in heaven to have a festival in such a God-beloved place», – says Maestro Bashmet.
In addition to large concerts of various genres on the Great Meadow of the Museum Preserve, the festival program also includes a concert for residents and guests of the city; it hosts the International Music Academy for gifted children within the framework of the All-Russian program “Yuri Bashmet to Young Talents of Russia” and the school for young journalists writing about culture; it also includes a chamber music evening in the Memorial Drawing Room and concerts by scholarship holders of the Governor of the Moscow Region, soloists of the Yuri Bashmet All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra, and others.
Among the festival participants of different years are Denis Matsuev, Simone Kermes, Evgeny Mironov, Alexandra Ursulyak, Igor Butman, Valery Gergiev, Yuri Bashmet, Pelageya, Nikolai Tsiskaridze, Vadim Eilenkrieg, Mary Carne, Ramon Vargas, Vladimir Fedossev, Anna Bolshova, Ksenia Bashmet, Julian Makarov, Dmitry Bertman, Helikon Opera, the Bolshoi Theatre, the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, and others.
