THE FESTIVAL OF YOUTH ORCHESTRAS OF THE WORLD
The Festival of Youth Orchestras of the World was first held in Moscow in August 2023 and was well received by the audience and participants. Its concerts brought together youth symphony orchestras from Algeria, Uzbekistan, the Arab Youth Symphony Orchestra, as well as young musicians from China, the Republic of Korea, Moldova, Serbia, Chile, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Colombia, and Bosnia. As part of the 2023 Festival, the World Youth Festival Symphony Orchestra was established and successfully performed at the closing of the festival under the direction of Yuri Bashmet.
The II Festival of Youth Orchestras of the World took place in Moscow on August 16–18, 2024, on the initiative of Maestro Yuri Bashmet and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Russia. As well as the first festival, this was also an open-air event at the Great Amphitheatre of Zaryadye Park. Each festival day offered a new concert, and each day was rounded off personally by maestro Yuri Bashmet.
Among the participants of the 2024 Festival were nine youth orchestras from China, Serbia, Kazakhstan, and Russia. The combined youth symphony orchestras of the BRICS and CIS countries were brought together for festival concerts for the first time.
The festival was supported by the Department of Culture of the City of Moscow as part of the “Moscow 2030” project.
