Tchaikovsky Gala concert to be held in Minsk

05.10.2025

On November 9, Yuri Bashmet will hold an annual musical evening in the Great Hall of the Belarusian State Philharmonic. The Tchaikovsky Gala concert program will be dedicated to the chamber music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, whose 185th birthday is being celebrated this year all over the world.

Most of Tchaikovsky’s chamber works appeared as memories transferred to the language of music – of places dear to the heart or dear people.

The first section will open with “Elegy in Memory of Ivan Samarin”, a small but deeply moving piece for strings, written in memory of the outstanding actor and director of the Maly Theater. Next, the violin cycle “Memories of a Dear Place” will be performed, inspired by the serene days Tchaikovsky spent at the Brailov Estate, the estate of his friend and patron Nadezhda von Meck. The evening program will also feature Pezzo capriccioso, a composition that has become a musical message of friendship and respect for cellist Anatoly Brandukov.

A special place in the concert will be occupied by romances accompanied by a string orchestra, as well as an interpretation of Lensky’s aria from the opera “Eugene Onegin” arranged for solo oboe.

The concert will be attended by laureates of the Tchaikovsky International Competition: Pavel Milyukov (violin), Alexander Ramm (cello), Fyodor Osver (oboe), and Nikolai Zemlyanskikh (baritone).

Maestro Yuri Bashmet himself will be at the console of the Moscow Soloists Chamber Ensemble.

The concert is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
