Yesterday, an Evening of modern Ballet was held on the stage of the Winter Theater, presented by the play “Ceon. Requiem for Ravel’s Bolero” by the South African Vuyani Dance Theater.

“Ceon. Requiem for Ravel’s Bolero” is a production by South African choreographer Gregory Makoma. It is based on Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero” and the work of the writer Zakes mda. According to the choreographer, the performance is a dance requiem reflecting the themes of greed and disenfranchisement of modern society. But at the same time, he emphasizes that it is through grief and mourning that people are able to unite.

“We are going through unimaginable tragedies, we are living in a time that I could describe as the “post-human era.” More than ever, we need to dance to remind the world that humanity still exists,” says Gregory Mac.

The audience was deeply moved by the performance and interrupted the performance three times with thunderous applause. The success of the performance and the enthusiastic reaction of the audience became a vivid confirmation that the art of dance is able to overcome cultural boundaries and speak the universal language of emotions.
