On October 28, the final concert of the grandiose Put’ Tchaikovskogo project took place on the stage of the Great Hall of the D.D. Shostakovich St. Petersburg Philharmonic. Under the direction of the artistic director of the project Yuri Bashmet, the united Orchestra of the two Capitals Moscow – St. Petersburg: the Honored Collective of Russia Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic and the State Symphony Orchestra “New Russia” performed.

On the day of the premiere of Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony, the day of his last concert, a unique group of the best musicians of the Honored Collective of Russia and the Novaya Rossiya Orchestra performed Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony in the same hall where its world premiere took place under the baton of the author 132 years ago.

Concerts within the framework of the Put’ Tchaikovskogo project took place this year in 8 Russian cities at once: Klin and Podolsk near Moscow, Vladimir, Usovo (Tambov Region), Alapaevsk (Sverdlovsk Region), Votkinsk, Moscow and St. Petersburg. More than 75 thousand people attended the concerts.

These concerts marked a new major stage in the development of the project in a year when the whole world celebrates the 185th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. According to the main idea of the project, concerts with the music of the genius take place in a variety of places, one way or another connected with the life and work of Tchaikovsky.

“This year, with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives, we have greatly expanded our large-scale Put’ Tchaikovskogo project. In the year of Peter Ilyich’s 185th birthday, special concerts were held in Klin, Alapaevsk, Votkinsk, Vladimir, Tambov regions, Moscow and St. Petersburg. The program is very different everywhere at concerts, the participants are very different, and each concert is special and memorable. And it is a great pleasure for me that I can discover new places for myself related to the life and work of our great genius Tchaikovsky. Traveling along his path, we become travelers ourselves and discover new places for ourselves. Tchaikovsky is a composer incredibly connected with both St. Petersburg and Moscow. And it was in the Philharmonic hall that his last performance in his life took place. For me, this concert is a very special, creative and very personal event,” Yuri Bashmet said.
