On January 16, the premiere of the Reflections concert performance will take place at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall as part of the VII Winter Art Festival in Moscow.

Prominent Russian actors Svetlana Kryuchkova, Danila Kozlovsky, Nikita Vysotsky, Evgeny Tkachuk and Anastasia Skorik will read works by Shakespeare and Goethe, excerpts from the collection of letters by Beethoven, as well as poems by Thomas Eliot.

The New Russia State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yuri Bashmet will perform works by Beethoven, P.I. Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and Prokofiev. The soloists will be Boris Berezovsky (piano), the prima ballerina and the premier of the Bolshoi Theater Eleonora Sevenard and Denis Rodkin.

Director and screenwriter Nikolai Skorik wonders:

“Don’t unexpected parallels arise in the plots of the plays with events in the life of the music authors, who sometimes hid from everyone? Why, for example, at the age of thirty, a quarter of a century before his death, did Beethoven suddenly write the “Heiligenstadt Testament”? What passions and secrets overwhelm him? The music he wrote at that time, his letters, the plot, and the scale of Goethe’s character help to open the veil. Then, through all these “reflections”, the personality of Beethoven himself rises before us in all its magnitude.”

In the concert-performance “Reflections”, all participants will try to give their own, artistic version of the answers to these questions. The first section will begin with Beethoven’s “Pathetic Sonata” performed by Boris Berezovsky, which will be replaced by a choreographic episode to Prokofiev’s music from the ballet Romeo and Juliet, and the unique voice of Maria Babanova (radio recording from 1946) will sound, and these are also “reflections”…
