Yuri Bashmet celebrates birthday at Tchaikovsky Concert Hall

05.01.2026

On January 24, Yuri Bashmet will once again give a concert on the stage of the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall on his birthday. This year, together with the All-Russian Symphony Youth Orchestra, bass Ildar Abdrazakov, mezzo-soprano Maria Barakova and pianist Ksenia Bashmet will come out to congratulate the maestro.

“This is a long-standing tradition: Just like the New Year, if I’m not on stage, then the New Year didn’t happen or the birthday didn’t happen. This is a creative moment for me,” Yuri Bashmet admits.

Thanks to the imagination of Yuri Bashmet and Dmitry Grinchenko, director of the Russian Concert Agency, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall will be transformed into a fantastic space on this day. The unique set design, lighting, and video sequence will create a special entourage and a sense of the third dimension that everyone present – the artists and the audience – will immerse themselves in.

“Bringing people together is happiness. This gives you a sense of loyalty to the chosen path. And the way is also clear – to live in your homeland, to be useful and not to do outright stupid things,” says the maestro.

In recent years, the program of the concert on the maestro’s Birthday has been kept secret – the intrigue remains in order to surprise the guests of Yuri Bashmet more. And, as a rule, the music this evening is far from entertaining: the desire to “create meanings and create new worlds” leads to a choice of works that make the souls of listeners work. They find themselves attached to the innermost aspirations, the hidden thoughts that excite the maestro. Everyone who comes to the KZCH on January 24th will have a unique opportunity to be admitted into the personal space of a great artist through music.
