Today, Alexander Tchaikovsky, Chairman of the Council of the Union of Composers, Artistic Director of the Moscow Philharmonic, Head of the Composition Department of the Moscow Conservatory, People’s Artist of Russia, celebrates his eightieth birthday.

Alexander Tchaikovsky successfully combines composing, performing, teaching, and musical and social activities. Almost every premiere of a composer’s new work becomes a major event in the cultural life of our country. Many of his compositions were written specifically for Yuri Bashmet, with whom he has more than 40 years of creative friendship.

A solemn concert dedicated to the composer’s anniversary will be held as part of the XIX Winter International Art Festival. This evening, the new chamber vocal cycle “I Bless Everything” will be performed for the first time. His idea is unusual — to combine the poems of Russian poets of different eras and translate their common message of love into the language of music by means of voice and piano.

This cycle and other romances by the composer will be performed in the Organ and Chamber Music Hall by Elizaveta Zakharova (mezzo-soprano) and pianist, Honored Artist of Russia Alexei Goribol.

And at the main venue of the festival, the Winter Theater, in the second section of the Opening Gala Concert, the world premiere of the hero of the day fable for voice and symphony orchestra “Muskrat in the Theater” performed by Ildar Abdrazakov and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Russia conducted by Yuri Bashmet will be performed.
