“When in fly from Moscow to Khabarovsk, I realize how Russia is huge… The more interesting it is to hold festivals in its different corners”

Yuri Bashmet

Far East is an amazing land, enveloped in romantic and legends… Every person coming here experiences its magic energy and definitely returns, being charmed by this land.

First International Musical Festival in Khabarovsk krai was held in 2011 and generated an enormous interest to public. Since next year the festival has started to expand the geography and one of its concerts has been held in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. And then other cities of Khabarovsk krai have included in the festival program: Vanino, Sovetskaya Gavan, Vyazemsky.

Festival in Khabarovsk attracts the broad public not with the “star” participants, even amongst them there are: violinists Victor Tretyakov, Kristof Barati, Tatyana Samuil, Alyona Baeva, cellists Alexander Buzlov, Umberto Clerici, Bruno Philip, pianists Ivan Rudin, Ekaterina Skanavi, virtuoso trumpeter Vladislav Lavrik, outstanding Italian flutist Massimo Mercelli, opera soloists from Bolshoi and Mariinsky. Program of the festival is distinguished by a wonderful variety, where apart from classical “hits”, there are pieces of Georg Telemann, Leopold Mozart, Benjamin Britten, Gustav Holst, Arnold Schoenberg, Joaquín Turina, Tôru Takemitsu, Sofia Gubaidullina, Giya Kancheli, Alfred Schnittke… Thanks to annual Festival most part of that music was firstly performed on the Far East land.

Festival’s face reflects an addiction of Yuri Bashmet to the artistic synthesis, to expanding the genre boards. Thus, the guests of the festival has become a famed bayan player Friedrich Lips, a legendary authentic performer Arkadiy Shilkloper who played on alpine horn, Alexey Lemeshev with the first sound of glass harp in Khabarovsk… Moreover, also were presented jazz orchestra of Luxemburg, composition of music and literature “Shakespeare’s faces”; in musical poetical programs a well-known master of ceremonies and broadcaster Artyom Vargaftik and an actor Mikhail Trukhin have taken part.

A separate day of Festival was traditionally dedicated to children program – in 2017 that concert was combined with a children’s drawing competition.
